Xata. (Truth). It began long before us, we who now live our perfect and dull, endless lives. It began long before these moon-palaces and body-markets hurling around our golden sun. It began long before our light-coil thinkers, our radiation wars, our oil, smoke. It began with us. The continuity and its twin, wanderlust. The need for unseen shores deep in our marrow. No judge, jester, queen, or king can escape this old blood. We are nomads, eternal. And when no ocean, mountain, or sky could contain us… our gaze hungered star-ward. Afar, they mocked us with their brittle light. Winking and jeering like dangling Ayatans forever out of reach, illuminating the truth: immortal as we are - we die with the sun. That's where I come in.

20 > Albrecht

Jahu. (Form). My departure was a day less than any other. When I stepped inside the Bell, I saw no crowd through its seriglass. No skeptical onlookers. No regal sendoff. They all had given up on me and my paradoxical formulations. The wasted years had all shown the Void to be just that. Nothing. No energy. No entanglement. No form. To space-faring ambitions, a dead end. On the day, my laboratory was mostly vacant of witnesses, most of all, of expectation. Only my sluggish attendants, my sagacious Kavat, Kalymos, and of course, my daughter. I had raised her alone but with inconsistent vigor. In those eyes, her mother's, I did see a terrible reflection. Of a man that did not exist. A brave and principled man about to make history. In truth, he was a Void himself. An outcast, a joke, a nothing. Driven by my humiliation. Failure had made me bitter and reckless. I would dive into the depths myself to prove them all wrong. I gave the signal. My daughter grasped the lever. Kalymos, then, belted out a desperate, rasping growl. But it was too late.

30 > Albrecht

Vome. (Order). The calipers yawed open the wall between worlds, stretching there a black, trapezoidal gap. A door. A mouth. It yawned in the light of the room, splintering it to mesmerizing, unearthly hues. And I, inside the Bell, dropping obliquely toward it from my gallows. Mass and time rippled as a sudden vortex jawed before me. My head was vapor, my feet, lodestone. The Bell around me, flexed like a rat paralyzed in a winding, gulping snake. I faltered in the awe of it, stumbling against the seriglass and, with that, shifted the Bell's path through the wall. It grazed the caliper membrane, the edge of the door. No worldly edge was as thin, as sharp as could split even light. As the Bell faintly grazed it, the seriglass was all at once rendered like strips of flesh by Dax blade. My enclosure was beheaded in an instant, but still, I fell… sideways… Into the Void.

40 > Albrecht

Fass. (Chaos). Death was on me; I was certain. I was face-down, eyes clenched. My heart pulsing the last of its seconds, and my lungs burning the last of its air. A sudden nostalgia gripped me. I grasped desperately, for memory, of a storm, just passed, the fumbling pitch of a child's song… yet all these thoughts seemed to steal away from my mind like smoke through a vent. I would die empty. I then became aware of another sensation. Physical. A web of pain, needles itching into my arm. At once I realized: I was alive! Laying in the Bell's shattered seriglass! I groped the ground. Warm stone. The floor of my laboratory. So: I had never left… and so: I had failed. Again. I heard a crunch alongside me. Someone stepping through the shattered glass. With great shame, I gasped and rose my head to face my daughter above me. But as I opened my eyes, it wasn't her. It was me.

50 > Albrecht

Ris. (Light). The senselessness of it, the paradoxic, the vague untime form. I was alone, but not. For I stood there confronted by myself. A twin, but no brother. A reflection but with dimension. Behind him, no horizon, but a vast broiling sea of caustic light pierced at random by black-pin stars. And closer, around me, a gale of flowing vapor. Profane in color, billowing relentlessly into the nascent lack, seeking all directions. I was standing on a precipice of familiar stone, jagged and unanchored, as though cleaved directly from the very floor of my laboratory. I wondered at the vapor's path, smoking outward more, leaving behind now, the walls, the filigree gold, the rare cuts of marble from my home. I knew at once the vapor's source. I turned away, back toward the wall, the trapezoid I had yawed into it. Vapor erupted inward at the gap, but not just from there. For as I rolled my eyes back, I saw the same... a great-steam of scintillation, smoking out from my skull. Dumb in awe, I faced toward my chimerical twin. He spoke.

60 > Albrecht

Khra. (Time). An old name, unspoken in the centuries since my mother reared me. A soft hiss, soothing as a viper's gaze. Little Bengel. The other me reached out, offering his hand, gliding toward me without moving, as though the distance between us was now collapsing. A confusion, most euphoric, filled my mind. With the shred of wit that remained, I decided that I should run for my life. At once, crazed and frantic, I fled. But I made no forward progress. Instead, the world compressed evermore around me, as though I were an anchor pulling the shore to reach. When I arrived at the door, or rather, the door arrived at me, I howled, hurling myself inside. Out. And then and there, I was. Lost and unlost. Howling on the floor in harmony with my wretched Kalymos. Lacerated in flesh and heart. Scattered as the bell glass. Spilling blood and stomach on the cold, stone floor. But I sensed the other there, at the wall's breach behind me, reaching still. I screamed, but my voice was gone. Forever. I looked, but my eyes would never see again. I swept my fist across the floor, snatching broken shards. And in gripping tightly, I filled my hands with ink. Close it! I wrote.

70 > Albrecht

Netra. (Decay). Time, to us, is all but conquered. Our sacred Kuva moves us on to new skin. We numb to our daily, yearly, trifles… and remedy those memories that bring lasting misery. With all our misdeeds, our excess, our indignity… we are haunted by nothing. But not for me. For with each passing day, there grew within a tumorous idea. It was minute in those early days: The pale reaching digits severed on the floor… studied with reverence, with greed. And it swelled larger in the latter days: the regal domes, the Rail dedications, the unholy Zariman parade. I had put the stars within reach, but at what cost? I never spoke of him, that man, trapped in the wall. And while there have been countless souls who have followed me through, with their light-skippers, and field-wave skins and vari-eyed instruments… not a single one ever saw him. Me. And so it is that I will not take the Kuva now. Or ever again. This is the last skin I'm in. Because of this idea: That I cannot be sure. That in all that smoked commotion, in all that panic and fear, in that bending light and blinding dark… was it I who escaped? Or the other?

80 > Albrecht

Lohk. (Void). From brooding gulfs are we beheld by that which bears no name. Its heralds are the stars it fells. The sky and Earth aflame. Corporeal laws are unwrit. As suns and love retreat. To cosmic madness, laws submit. Though stalwart minds entreat. In luminous space, blackened stars. They gaze, accuse, deny. Roiling, moaning, this realm of ours. In madness, lost shall die. Carrion hordes trill their profane accord with eldritch plans. To cosmic forms from tangent planes. We end as we began.

Now, this is the kind of thing you can produce if you're willing to put in the hours. I'm telling you, most don't have the patience.

We tried it her way, and where did it get us? Just look at me! So now I'm doing things my way like I should have done all along. We'll show them, won't we? You and me. Make them sit up and pay attention. The weapons, they're just one branch of the project. You keep on like this, and I might cut you in on more of what I've really been working on. 'Look, Daddy, I caught a fish! I am good for something!' Great. Try fighting off a full-grown Predasite with a fish.

3820 > Father

We needed those rituals. The discipline of it. Might have kept us from ending up like… this. She clawed me! My own daughter! And she laughed!

5430 > Daughter

My father tried to lead us in 'martial discipline' every morning. It was a farce. I only wish I'd ripped him open sooner. He's so spineless nowadays.

5440 > Daughter

I've got fishing supplies. Father has useless guilt. Mother's cornered the market in disappointed tutting, and my brother does mindless vandalism. Browse away.

5460 > Daughter

Look at him. Smirking. He knows what he did. You know he had the gall to call himself a scientist, before Deimos? I remember when he ate mud!

5470 > Daughter

You know what Grandmother said? 'Just ignore it. Don't rise to it. It's the attention he craves.' As if one day he'll have had enough and he'll just stop.

5480 > Daughter

It's magical, isn't it? That first moment when you see the fish glimmering down in the deep, and you know you have to have him. It's just you and the fish, and you forget all about drowning your brother.

5490 > Daughter

I wonder if I'll ever find out what I did. Why he hates me so much. You know what? On second thought, no. He's not that important.

5500 > Daughter

Ancient Orokin strains. I was meant to seed a new world with them. Burned to cinders for a cheap joke.

This… this specimen is a descendent of my original collection. How… how did…?

You didn't incinerate them at all. You...

Dumped them in the exocrine. We can rebuild. They're still out there, and doing quite well it seems. I wanted to wound you, not maim. You're right to hate me.

5530 > Daughter

No. I deny you my hatred. Find something else to feed on. Whatever you've become, I am still your sister.

5560 > Daughter

I'm not just someone's daughter. I'm me. I'm Kaelli. Of all the people to name me, I never thought it would be him.

5570 > Daughter

I wasted years being angry with my brother for what he did to my specimens. Now I think they meant more to him than they ever did to me.

5580 > Daughter

You understand, don't you? The feeling of splitting open a nice fresh Ostimyr. That heady smell of acetone, liver, and corrosion.

DaughterIntroLoved

5590 > Daughter

Whisper it, but Mother's started listening to me again. Not just eavesdropping, either. She's more herself than she's ever been. I'll never forget what you did.

5600 > Daughter

The fish are evolving. Did you notice that about them? I wonder what they'll turn into after a thousand years. I wonder what I'll look like then.

5610 > Daughter

I wonder - what exactly did Grandmother cook up, to help bring this reconciliation about? Probably best not to ask. Crafty old harridan.

5620 > Daughter

'Kermerros and Kaelli. Sibling pioneers researching together on the threshold of the Void.' Yes, that could work.

5630 > Daughter

I wish Loid and Otak would visit us more often. The family isn't truly united until the servants have come home.

5640 > Daughter

My father's spent years regretting what he didn't do, and my mother's spent just as long refusing to regret anything she ever did. I don't quite understand how you brought them back together, but I'm glad. And grateful.

5650 > Daughter

All that time wasted hating one another. You learn to relish the cruelty. Torturing ourselves was better than feeling nothing at all. Anyway, it's over.

Hmm. Totally infested, this one, inside and out.

DaughterFishSelectCommon

DaughterFishSelectUncommon

5750 > Daughter

You don't see this type every day, but there's lots about.

DaughterFishSelectRare

5760 > Daughter

This was a lucky catch. Most of these get eaten by the others or get so overwhelmed with Infestation they just sink to the bottom. You hardly ever see these.

DaughterFishSelectLegendary

5770 > Daughter

Now, this takes me back. A Myxostomata! The original Orokin stock was all but extinct. This one must have been hiding in a deep dark artery somewhere. Look at that gilding. He's an antique, aren't you? Almost seems a shame to bust him open.

DaughterFishDonateEnter

5780 > Daughter

You can always donate your catch to my research archive. Since I lost my original specimens, I'm doing what I can with their Infested descendants. It's not as easy for me to go fishing myself as it used to be, so I'd appreciate anything you can spare.

5790 > Daughter

You don't have to keep what you catch. I'm happy to find a home for it in my archive.

5800 > Daughter

You make sure you stay safe and snug, dear. Wrap up well. It's a thief and a liar, is Deimos. Steals over girls and boys and Cephalons too like a nasty fog, until all the bright lights in your memory are quite blotted out. That's why they're like that, you see. So much forgotten. Oh, but we mustn't cry over it, never that. Help me bring them back, would you, dear? Remember how it's done. Pinch of this, dab of that; mend a kettle, mend a heart, and it's all one.

6060 > Grandmother

We are nameless now. Relations existing only in relation. Deimos has stolen more than flesh from us.

6070 > Grandmother

My granddaughter's fish were meant to be her legacy, to seed a new world. The boy reduced them to ash and bone splinters. I warned his parents not to neglect him so.

6090 > Grandmother

The 'observations of martial discipline'. How futile. But my granddaughter's ridicule went too far.

6100 > Grandmother

The boy was rash, no doubt. Gallivanting across Deimos on secret odysseys, coming back with Infested on his trail! Well, he paid for it. Scalded, lashed, and banished from the family archives.

6110 > Grandmother

That's quite enough. Foolish old woman. Snap out of it. … I'm sorry, dear, were you saying something?

6120 > Grandmother

The boy should have known better. With tainted flesh, he mocked his own parents. So his father brought slaughter down, as well he might.

6130 > Grandmother

The boy clothed Infested beasts as Father and Mother. She blundered into a pit, and mindlessly he followed after, lured by her pheromones! Hit a little too close to home, that did.

6140 > Grandmother

He's a fine boy at heart, my grandson. Got his head screwed on right. And he's clever enough to know how little he knows. Not like his bloody mother.

6150 > Grandmother

That woman clings to her seriglass shard like she could wring her lost father out of it. Her husband was a fool to tell her to throw it away. When she carved her anger deep into his flesh, he never once raised his hand to her.

6160 > Grandmother

Husband and wife! They've not been that for years. Not since she took that shard to him and lacerated him for his insolence. His own children watched him endure it. He did nothing.

6170 > Grandmother

Her first duty was to her family, not to some fatuous dream! If I were her mother… oh, I'm sorry, dear. I didn't mean to take it out on you.

Deimos is bewitching. And when you're bewitched, you're not. Paying. Attention. Then… this happens. So try to be less easily impressed out there, hm? For all our sakes?

8130 > Son

You'd do well to listen to my Grandmother from time-to-time. Oh, she was never a soldier or a scientist. Sometimes I think that freedom from stricture is what makes her the most intellectually nimble of us all.

SonUnlockTThree

8160 > Mother

Your work proceeds, my son. Clearly you thrive in isolation.

8170 > Son

Outside your control. Shackling me was never going to work.

8180 > Mother

'Shackling?' You contaminated the family... and yourself! You had to be protected from these… mad urges.

8190 > Son

You were worried about me. Thank you for the overdue recognition.

8200 > Mother

Your restrictions will be eased. Slightly. I name you Kermerros. The runner who outstrips his own shadow.

SonIntroTThreeCombo

8210 > Son

I have the honor of a name and a little taste of freedom! Whatever you're doing out there, Tenno, keep at it.

8220 > Son

Deimos is unfolding before us like a puzzle-box. I must have more samples.

SonIntroTThreeFour

8230 > Son

None of the monstrosities you'll find out there are as fearsome as the demons inside my mother's head.

8240 > Son

Poor Kaelli thinks this family may yet have a future. Monotony is bearable. Hope? That'll kill you.

SonIntroLovedFirst

8300 > Son

So. The stranger at the family feast turned out to be the one who guided us to find one another again. There will be scars, ugly ones, but healing too. Thank you, friend.

SonIntroLoved

8310 > Son

Are you well, Tenno?

8320 > Son

Grandmother had the measure of us all from the start!

8330 > Son

My mother is more than just her father's daughter now. She's finally loosed her own shackles, just as she did mine.

8340 > Son

I wonder what kind of man my father will become; now he's emerged from his corroded chrysalis of duty. I wonder if we shall ever be friends.

8350 > Son

Loid used to lift me onto his back to ride around the gardens! How strange to suddenly think of that.

8360 > Son

Wonderful to see you again. Come. Let's exchange words.

8370 > Son

Tenno. You appear quite intact and well-sealed. This is good. If you intend to venture out, perhaps we might talk samples?

8380 > Son

I believed Father lacked the spine to save us from Mother's hubris, but I see now that he believed her delusion as much as Mother herself - indeed, what choice did we have? Without void travel, our people would have been helpless before the threat. Her plan was our last hope.

8390 > Son

Kaelli wasn't even meant to be here. She stowed away, not wanting to be left out of the adventure. Somehow still as sweet as ever, she is my greatest sorrow. My parents' too, I know.

8400 > Son

Mother surrounded herself with experts, married a leader in his field, and took advice from none of them. She may have some regrets, sure. But not enough. I doubt she has the capacity. That would expose too many cracks in the story she tells about herself.

8410 > Son

I was to be married, you know? She would now be as dead as the empire that raised us. Sometimes I wish I had been there, with her, when your kind came for us. No hard feelings. Our time had more than come.

8411 > Son

Salutations, Ayatan of the Entrati.

SonOutroSale

8450 > Son

Farewell. Travel safe.

8460 > Son

Don't get lazy out there.

8470 > Son

I look forward to your return.

SonOutroNoSale

8480 > Son

Indeed.

8490 > Son

Mm-hm.

8500 > Son

As you wish.

SonPetIntro

8510 > Son

You'll notice the lifeforms of Deimos are constantly ripping chunks out of one another. If you happen across a Predasite or a Vulpaphyla that's been wounded by the Infested, you have a chance to save it. Just tranq it quickly before it succumbs. Use as many shots as you need. Once it's recovered, you can raise it as a loyal companion. I'll even be able to redirect some of its Infested mutations into a more useful form. Taking liberties with Creation, perhaps, but where's the harm in that?

SonPetNoWound

8520 > Son

I can't wait for you to experience the joys of bringing up a festering little friend of your very own, but first, you need to catch one. Find a Predasite or Vulpaphyla the Infested have wounded, tranq it, and hurry back.

8530 > Son

I'm dreadfully sorry, but despite appearances, this is not a pet shop. Sedate a Predasite or Vulpaphyla that's been wounded by the Infested, then we can talk mutagens.

SonPetTranqWound

8540 > Son

Just in time. Stasis will arrest the spread of the Infestation for now. Bring the stricken beast to me, and we can discuss how to proceed.

8550 > Son

You've saved its life, Tenno. It'll serve you loyally, but first, we need to address the Infestation in its system. Pay me a visit soon.

8560 > Son

Good work. That tranquilizer will stop the Infestation in its tracks. Bring the specimen to me, and we can decide what happens next.

SonPetBuildIdlePet

8570 > Son

With mutagens and antigens, I can restore an injured specimen to complete health. There will be side effects, however.

8580 > Son

Both the Predasite and the Vulpaphyla are formidable allies. Just be sure you're up to the task of raising one decently before you commit.

8590 > Son

There's no hurry. The Infestation won't overwhelm this creature now. Its fate is in your hands.

SonPetBuildIdleMuta

8600 > Son

Depending on your eventual choice of mutagen, the creature will become robust in one of several ways.

8610 > Son

The mutagen converts Infestation into resistance. Gaining strength from what tried to kill you.

8620 > Son

We should apply a mutagen at this stage. If the creature could speak, it'd thank you for it.

SonPetBuildIdleAnti

8630 > Son

The antigen you choose will determine how you can further optimize the creature's abilities.

8640 > Son

It's time to choose an antigen. I'm breathless with anticipation.

8650 > Son

Rewriting a creature's biology is a huge responsibility. Choose the antigen with care.

SonPetBuildSelect

8660 > Son

Good, good.

8670 > Son

Very well.

8680 > Son

As you wish.

8690 > Son

Done.

SonPetRecover

8700 > Son

There. The creature's healthier than ever and looking superb with it. It's yours now, collared and bonded. May you always have one another's back.

8710 > Son

All done. The Infestation is purged, and the patient is well. Look out for each other. Found family is the truest.

8720 > Son

Congratulations, Tenno. The creature is saved. So begins a beautiful friendship, forged in the filth of Deimos. I may weep.

SonPetReleaseOption

8730 > Son

It came from the Cambion Drift. Maybe it's time to let it go back home, never to return to your side.

8740 > Son

If you let your companion go, you'll never see it again. But you will have my respect.

8750 > Son

Has the time come to set your loyal friend free forever? The decision rests with you.

SonPetRelease

8760 > Son

A noble choice I won't soon forget.

8770 > Son

Very well. Let it have its freedom.

8780 > Son

I'll let you say goodbye, then. Well done.

SonPetKeep

8790 > Son

Your time together isn't over yet.

8800 > Son

Why end such a successful partnership?

8810 > Son

I understand.

SonPetNameNoMax

8820 > Son

Not yet. Come back when you've spent some more time in action together.

8830 > Son

Sorry. Not until you've proven you can take care of each other.

8840 > Son

I can't do that for you. Yet.

SonPetName

8850 > Son

So. Your friend needs a name. What's it to be?

8860 > Son

Without a name, you're only half real. What are you calling this one?

8870 > Son

I'm glad to see this, Tenno. There's honor in a name. So, choose.

SonPetNameConfirm

8880 > Son

They are named.

8890 > Son

So be it, then.

8900 > Son

May it endure in glory.

SonPetNameDefault

8910 > Son

Grandmother would approve.

8920 > Son

Taking Deimos as you find it? Very well.

8930 > Son

As you wish.

SonHuntStart

8940 > Son

Clear bio signs. Follow them, if you would.

8950 > Son

There! Bio sign. Do you think you can find whatever left it?

8960 > Son

Something was here, not long ago. Yes, yes, this is promising. Please, pursue.

8970 > Son

Fresh bio sign. On your way, if you would.

8980 > Son

Bio sign.

8990 > Son

The specimen left in that direction. I'd be grateful if you caught it.

9000 > Son

Well, you're close to something that's certain. Not to backseat drive, but I think if you head that way, you might find it.

9010 > Son

Close. Very, very close. Tell me: do you see a trail?

9020 > Son

Yes. That's what we want. Softly, softly now.

9030 > Son

They're nearby. Move. Carefully. These things have senses we have only begun to understand.

SonHuntEscape

9040 > Son

Well. That's that then.

9050 > Son

Right. They… have… eluded you. I'm sure it wasn't a particularly fetching specimen anyway.

9060 > Son

It appears to have outwitted you.

9070 > Son

This is a lost cause. Nothing for it but to try again.

9080 > Son

Tenno: zero. Mutant: one. Ah well.

9090 > Son

Forget it, it's lost. Back to the drawing board.

9100 > Son

Perhaps you should try again... after a nap.

9110 > Son

I needed one thing from that specimen, and it wasn't their absence. Again?

9120 > Son

Vanished, vanished, forever vanished. Back! To whatever pulsing orifice it squirted from. I am desolate.

9130 > Son

Lost it. Ah well. At least we have this view.

9140 > Son

I could watch you do this forever… but I'd rather not. From the top?

SonHuntArriveLure

9150 > Son

End of the line. Where'd it go, I wonder. Try using your echo-lure.

9160 > Son

The little bugger's around here somewhere. Use the lure.

9170 > Son

You've gone to them, now bring them to you. Use your echo-lure.

9180 > Son

It didn't just vanish. Call with your echo-lure. It'll show itself.

9190 > Son

Stop. It's bloody close. Use your echo-lure, and wait.

9200 > Son

This is its environment, all right. Do you have your echo-lure? Draw the specimen toward you.

9210 > Son

Stop. Stop stop stop. Echo-lure, now.

9220 > Son

Curious. Trail ends. Tenno, call to them with the echo-lure.

9230 > Son

It was here very recently. It's very, very close. Play them a little song on that echo-lure of yours. And… you know. Make it sexy.

SonHuntHoldLure

9240 > Son

Yeah, no. The tune needs to be a bit longer than that, my friend.

9250 > Son

Sustain the note, Tenno. If it doesn't sustain, it won't carry.

9260 > Son

You have to hold the note for it to work. Once more, from the top.

9270 > Son

Bravo! That was terrible. We are not at home to stage fright. Let's do it again, and sustain the note this time.

9280 > Son

Too short. Too short too short too short! Hold the note. Hold.

9290 > Son

No. Longer, more sustained. Again.

9300 > Son

You've essentially screamed, "Hello, I'm a total fraud" to every specimen in earshot. Try again.

SonHuntAnimalSummon

9310 > Son

Well done. Tranq ready?

9320 > Son

Tranq rifle ready… easy now...

9330 > Son

You'll likely only get one shot, so let's not choke, hmm?

9340 > Son

Tranq ready. If you need to sneeze, do it now.

9350 > Son

Lovely. Now, drop that thing like a sack of rocks.

9360 > Son

Here they come. Get your eye down those sights.

9370 > Son

I'm very keen to examine this one. Tranq ready?

9380 > Son

Time to put my money where your mouth is. Wherever your mouth is. Tranq ready.

9390 > Son

"The quarry approached, the noble hunter raised their weapon and with one shot theeeeey…"

SonHuntPredasite

9400 > Son

Predasites. Two concepts in one. Neither one of them good.

9410 > Son

Predasites usually hunt alone. That makes it easier for you to hunt them. Of course, you might fail to spot a lone specimen.

9420 > Son

Be wary when luring Predasites. You might get more than one coming to the party, and you won't be the kind of company they were expecting.

9430 > Son

Some Predasites spit, you know. Very rude. Especially when you notice you're being digested.

9440 > Son

You won't have seen anything like Predasite mating season in the swamps. Methane and pheromones. It's a head-spinner.

SonHuntVulpaphyla

9450 > Son

Vulpaphyla is a scavenging bioform, surviving by doing its best to not get killed.

9460 > Son

Vulpaphyla. Skittish, agile, somewhat tactical. Non-aggressive.

9470 > Son

You'll need patience and cunning. Vulpaphyla's first instinct is to distance itself from a threat.

9480 > Son

Vulpaphyla is a bioform adapted from old Earth canid scavenger stock. Likely cargo from one hapless wreck or another.

9490 > Son

Vulpaphyla. Easy to take down, if you can sight them before they flee.

SonHuntCallUndazoa

9500 > Son

Undazoa require a fluid environment. Secreted within some warm runnel or artery they will surface to investigate. Tranq it before it can escape back to the depths.

9510 > Son

Undazoa. Luscious. Wait for it to emerge from its plasm before firing, lest it escape back into that velvety thickness.

9520 > Son

Undazoa are extraordinarily simple organisms, subsisting primarily on what Deimos excretes. That alone makes them a trove of potential discoveries.

9530 > Son

The Undazoa will not emerge from its endoplasmic home if it senses a threat. Wait until it flops ashore before tranqing it.

9680 > Son

I'd say that's an Undazoa. A striking-looking thing. Reproduces asexually. Lives on contaminants. The sort of creature only Deimos would beget.

SonHuntAvichaea

9540 > Son

Avichaeas are primitive, high-strung creatures. Definitely more inclined towards "flight" than "fight."

9550 > Son

If you're trying to locate an Avichaea, my first inclination would be to simply look up.

9560 > Son

Avichaeas are known to cling to walls, so inspect your surroundings thoroughly.

9570 > Son

While cautious, an Avichaea's curiosity can be piqued with a call.

SonHuntCallNexifera

9580 > Son

If you discover a pool of bile on the ground, there's likely to be a Nexifera somewhere near.

9590 > Son

Nexiferas always leave a viscous trail behind them, so inspect the ceilings for slime.

9600 > Son

Nexiferas are coy little creatures -- be certain you're out of sight when in their presence. You'll also find an Echo-Lure handy in hunting them.

9610 > Son

Remember: when attempting to tranq a Nexifera, aim for their soft tissue -- your darts will bounce right off their keratin shell.

9710 > Son

Look up and proceed cautiously. That sounds like a Nexifera, and given the opportunity, it won't think twice about "thwomping" you.

SonHuntCryptilex

9620 > Son

Ganglions are considered quite a delicacy by Cryptilexes. So it might behoove you to search any Haptic Fronds you come across.

9630 > Son

Don't underestimate a Cryptilex: they're small but quite aggressive.

9640 > Son

If you spot a Cryptilex, best tranq it before it bites. They are very bitey.

9650 > Son

Cryptilexes will respond to a call. Just be sure you're ready with that tranq rifle.

SonHuntCallPredasite

9660 > Son

That sounds distinctly like a Predasite, Deimos' most majestic predator. Let's hope it's not with its young. They can get aggressive when defending their offspring against a perceived threat.

SonHuntCallVulpaphyla

9670 > Son

That's definitely a Vulpaphyla. They're scavengers, who prefer to travel in packs, so I wouldn't be surprised to find more than one.

SonHuntCallAvichaea

9690 > Son

By the sound of that cry, I'd say there's an Avichaea not far from here. You won't mistake it when you see it -- they look like something from another geological era.

SonHuntCallCryptilex

9700 > Son

Hm. That could only be a Cryptilex. Don't underestimate them. It's a small insect, but it will attack should it feel threatened.

SonHuntWrongLure

9720 > Son

A mating call excellently performed… but… that's the wrong lure.

9730 > Son

Wrong lure. You'll need to match their call, if you want to get their attention.

9740 > Son

You've chosen the incorrect lure. A common mistake.

SonHuntSeePredasiteCommon

9750 > Son

That's a Vizier Predasite. Magnificent beasts... though they do have the habit of spitting poison.

SonHuntSeePredasiteUncommon

9760 > Son

A Pharaoh Predasite. Powerful, majestic and with a mouth full of parasites!

SonHuntSeePredasiteRare

9770 > Son

Do you know what that is? It's a Medjay Predasite! What a rare and unexpected find! Judging by its size, I'd say you'll have to tranq it twice.

SonHuntSeeVulpaphylaCommon

9780 > Son

Ah, the Sly Vulpaphyla. The most common variety, but still an invaluable addition to our menagerie.

SonHuntSeeVulpaphylaUncommon

9790 > Son

Unless my eyes deceive me, that's a Crescent Vulpaphyla! Just be careful you don't get tangled up in its horns.

SonHuntSeeVulpaphylaRare

9800 > Son

Hold on… that's a Panzer Vulpaphyla! We must bring it in! I'd estimate by its armor-plating that it might take a few darts before you can safely secure it.

SonHuntSeeUndazoaCommon

9810 > Son

An Umber Undazoa, and a fine specimen, too. Let's see if we can capture him.

SonHuntSeeUndazoaUncommon

9820 > Son

Hmm… I can tell by its color, we have a Vaporous Undazoa on our hands. Now, they're a belchy lot, so be careful you don't inhale anything it might expel.

SonHuntSeeUndazoaRare

9830 > Son

A Howler Undazoa! I've been concerned that competing fauna might render them extinct. Try not to startle it -- those things can scream bloody murder.

SonHuntSeeAvichaeaCommon

9840 > Son

A Common Avichaea. They're skittish things, so tread lightly.

SonHuntSeeAvichaeaUncommon

9850 > Son

That's the "Sporule" variety of Avichaea. Now, don't startle it, or you're likely to get a faceful of infested spores.

SonHuntSeeAvichaeaRare

9860 > Son

A Viscid Avichaea! I haven't seen one in decades. But there it is: alive and in living color! Please, be careful though. They can be a bit... "mucousy."

SonHuntSeeCryptilexCommon

9870 > Son

A Burrowing Cryptilex. Insects are the base of Deimos' food webs, that's why conservation of even these humble creatures is so vital.

SonHuntSeeCryptilexUncommon

9880 > Son

That's a Septic Cryptilex! The Grineer invested quite a bit of time trying to eradicate all these little fellows… probably because they're infectious. But that's not their fault, is it? They were born that way.

SonHuntSeeCryptilexRare

9890 > Son

Now that's something you don't see everyday: a very rare Caustic Cryptilex! But do exercise caution: they have glands in their abdomens that release an acidic spray.

SonHuntSeeNexiferaCommon

9900 > Son

An Amethyst Nexifera. Not the most "visually pleasing" creature, but worthy of study all the same.

SonHuntSeeNexiferaUncommon

9910 > Son

Hunter, that's a Viridian Nexifera! Now, you'll have to be quick -- like all Nexifera they tend towards flightiness. Oh, and maybe wait for the poison cloud to disperse.

SonHuntSeeNexiferaRare

9920 > Son

I couldn't mistake that coloration. It's the rarest of all Nexifera: the Scarlet! Beautiful, in its way… and dangerous. Beware its shockwave.

SonHuntSeeVelocipodRare

9930 > Son

A White Velocipod! The rarest and fastest of the breed. Get close enough, don't spook it, and you can ride it right on out of here.

SonHuntSeeVelocipodUncommon

9940 > Son

The Green Velocipod. Nimble little creatures. Serviceable mounts, too, if a little tricky to catch.

SonHuntSeeVelocipodCommon

9950 > Son

Ah, is that a Purple Velocipod, basking in the wyrm-light? Did you ever see a lovelier thorax?

SonHuntAnimalKilled

9960 > Son

Bra-vo. Annihilate that lifeform. Obliterate any morsel of data we might have gleaned from it.

9970 > Son

I appreciate how much your kind enjoy bathing in spilled ichor and viscera, but I specifically asked for the lifeform to be sedated.

9980 > Son

A little over-zealous there, Tenno. You were not supposed to massacre it.

SonCatchAgeYoung

9990 > Son

A mere neonate.

10000 > Son

Barely developed.

10010 > Son

Still has some growing to do.

SonCatchAgeOld

10020 > Son

This one's an adult.

10030 > Son

Fully grown.

10040 > Son

Made it to adulthood.

SonCatchUncommonPredasite

10050 > Son

A Pharaoh Predasite. Menacing in the field. Rather adorable when asleep, don't you think?

10060 > Son

When the Pharaoh Predasite goes to sleep, so do all its little parasites. Awww.

10070 > Son

One less Pharaoh Predasite active in the wild. There are things with too many legs that will sleep easier tonight.

SonCatchUncommonVulpaphyla

10080 > Son

A fine specimen of the Crescent Vulpaphyla.

10090 > Son

Can you believe the Grineer snap the horns off these beautiful lifeforms? Appalling.

10100 > Son

This specimen must have looked majestic in the wild.

SonCatchUncommonUndazoa

10110 > Son

Ah. There's nothing to equal the earthy, rich bouquet of a Vaporous Undazoa.

10120 > Son

What is that smell, redolent of a Grineer locker room with hints of horse meat and ketones?

10130 > Son

No matter how long you spend on Deimos, you never quite get used to the... ripeness... of a Vaporous Undazoa.

SonCatchUncommonAvichaea

10140 > Son

You've brought down a Sporule Avichaea in one piece. I'm impressed. They're delicate.

10150 > Son

The Sporule Avichaea. Infested though it is, it still soars.

10160 > Son

You have to take care transporting these. A few stray spores in the wrong place doesn't sound like much, but… well.

SonCatchUncommonCryptilex

10170 > Son

A Septic Cryptilex. I confess, I'm deeply fond of these obnoxious little pests.

10180 > Son

Deimos isn't about to run out of these any time soon.

10190 > Son

I've got a nice clump of Ganglions for this little one.

SonCatchUncommonNexifera

10200 > Son

A Viridian Nexifera. Tether neatly snapped. Enviable.

10210 > Son

It'll be fine here. I have plenty of Cryptilex to feed it.

10220 > Son

Look at those gas ducts twitching in its sleep! Lethal little bundle.

SonCatchUncommonVelocipod

10230 > Son

A Green Velocipod. Gorgeous.

10240 > Son

Not the most dangerous creature on Deimos, nor the rarest. But certainly one of the most useful.

10250 > Son

Ah, Green Velocipods. Proof that not everything on Deimos wants to eat you.

SonCatchRarePredasite

10260 > Son

A Medjay Predasite! I should paint your picture with it.

10270 > Son

A Medjay Predasite. As noble and regal in bearing as anything can be on this twisted flesh-pit of a moon.

10280 > Son

What a magnificent creature. I want to rest my cheek against its chest and listen to its entrails stirring in its sleep.

SonCatchRareVulpaphyla

10290 > Son

I expect this one took some dedication to bring down. Let's not tell Father you've got it. He'd only want to peel its armored hide off.

10300 > Son

The rare and exquisite Panzer Vulpaphyla! Oh, there are some old scars here. Just imagine what it must have endured.

10310 > Son

I don't often see a Panzer Vulpaphyla. Look how well it's adapted to living here. Thick armor and a killer instinct.

SonCatchRareUndazoa

10320 > Son

A Howler Undazoa. I shall assemble a little choir of these, I think. My own chorus of the damned, to sing me to sleep.

10330 > Son

One doesn't often hear a Howler Undazoa, much less see one. I fear for the day they have all been eaten, and Deimos will forever be deprived of their dulcet shrieks.

10340 > Son

Did it scream for you, Tenno? Did you find it unpleasant? I confess, its voice pulls at something deep within me. My infested bodily organs, I suspect.

SonCatchRareAvichaea

10350 > Son

Now this is a rarity. A Viscid Avichaea! Strange that something so glutinous and sticky should take to the sky with such easy grace, but then, Deimos is a place of aberrations.

10360 > Son

Where did you find this lovely specimen? You've done well. Bringing in a Viscid Avichaea is no task for a beginner.

10370 > Son

We may capture the Viscid Avichaea, Tenno, but we can never tame it. Such winged, gluey beauty belongs to the wild, forever.

SonCatchRareCryptilex

10380 > Son

My, my. A Caustic Cryptilex. A little miracle of digestion. The stuff these critters secrete can burn through a Landing Craft's hull. I hope you handled it carefully.

10390 > Son

I'm surprised to see you caught a Caustic Cryptilex, Tenno. They can be a headache to subdue. Well, you seem none the worse.

10400 > Son

Grandmother used to squeeze the juice out of these to burn off 'warts'. Of course, what we all thought were warts turned out to be something a bit worse.

SonCatchRareNexifera

10410 > Son

The Scarlet Nexifera. Rare, striking, unforgettable. The pendulous glory of Deimos. And you captured it!

10420 > Son

Oh, this is a tricksy creature. They knocked me off my feet many times, back in the days when I had feet.

SonCatchRareVelocipod

10440 > Son

So, you bagged the rare and elusive White Velocipod, all on your lonesome. That seems a little like showing off. I approve.

10450 > Son

A White Velocipod! Quite an achievement to bring one of those down without killing it. Excellent work.

10460 > Son

What a beauty. I salute your efforts. You didn't try to tranq a Velocipod while riding another Velocipod, did you? Don't. I watched someone try. It usually doesn't end well.

Contaminated. But not unworthy of affection.

10480 > Son

There, there. Whatever nightmare spawned you, you're ours now.

10490 > Son

You understand Deimos like few others, hunter. I sense we are alike in that.

10500 > Son

I'm sure this one put up a fight. Well done for bringing it in alive.

10510 > Son

Better clean it up. It's crawling with spores, but then, which of us isn't?

10520 > Son

I hope you immersed yourself in the pleasure of the hunt. It's the chief reward! Naturally, you will be paid, too.

10530 > Son

Welcome to our little menagerie. Outcasts, strays and foundlings all welcome.

10540 > Son

I wonder what you will teach us, my malformed friend? And for you, the agreed sum.

10550 > Son

Well done. Another adorable bundle of mutated flesh plucked from the harsh face of Deimos and given a new, caring home.

10560 > Son

Very well done, Tenno. Once it recovers from the sedation, it'll think itself in paradise.

SonCatchCongrat

10570 > Son

It is a thrill to watch you at work. A shame I have to cheapen it by paying you… but pay you I shall.

10580 > Son

Oh, they're off to the happy land of dreams. Stand by. Reward incoming.

10590 > Son

Didn't feel a thing, did you? A rare mercy on Deimos. Your fee, bold hunter.

SonHuntWrongTranq

10600 > Son

Tenno. You are using the wrong sedative for your quarry.

10610 > Son

You've mixed up your tranquilizers. Fix it!

10620 > Son

Try loading a tranquilizer that will actually work.

SonGoodbye

10630 > Son

I shall languish in weary solitude until you return.

10640 > Son

Bye for now, you shiny thing.

10650 > Son

See you around.

[4.0]

Would you like to hear a story for Naberus?

[11.0]

One that I told my grandchildren when they were small? Very well!

[21.0]

Long ago, in the Orokin days, a golden people lived in spoiled luxury.

[30.0]

If a body wore out, why, they would take a new one as easily as plucking a Maprico.

[33.0]

Such was the mystery of the Kuva.

[42.0]

So what became of death and disease? Oh, they were abundant, but not for the Orokin.

[45.0]

They were above petty death.

[52.0]

Such was their contempt that they decreed a special day on which to make fun of it.

[62.0]

On Naberus, the night of memory, the shining people laughed at death.

[71.0]

They dressed in costumes that recalled the old days. Of mortality.

[82.0]

Skulls grinned. Hallways guttered with demon-lights. For one night, beauty was banished.

[87.0]

Rot and monstrosity held sway.

[97.0]

Now on one very special Naberus, three pretty Orokin were bored, as Orokin so often were.

[103.0]

Naberus no longer holds its magic for me, sighed one.

[108.0]

Masks and costumes are for children, grumbled another.

[116.0]

Why follow the crowd, mused the third? Are we not the very elite of the elite?

[129.0]

Haha! Up, my kissingtons, my luscious loves; send for blue Kuva and hot lights; I have a sport that will mend all!

[143.0]

And in the corridor, behind a curtain, a solitary, silent girl heard them and said nothing.

[151.0]

Then the three were very wicked, for what do you think they did?

[165.0]

Down into the streets, they went, and they caught three poor Ostrons and bore them back to their gilded halls.

[178.0]

One, they peeled like a fruit and decked out with glassy splinters, and his naked jaws went chitter-chatter-snap, and it echoed all around.

[183.0]

Scarlet footprints he left.

[189.0]

Another's limbs they twisted, and wrenched his neck, and made a bundle of him,

[200.0]

until he scuttled upsy-downsy like a horrid crab, with his sockets all empty and his stretched-out nose snuffling.

[205.0]

The third they pulled thin in hand and foot.

[215.0]

She walked spindly-wise on long tiptoes like a spider, and her entrails hung delicately down.

[222.0]

She whispered, split-tongued and hissing, as she went.

[232.0]

Fine costumes we've made, chortled the three Orokin. Let us now try them on, and visit our friends!

[244.0]

What shrieking there will be! Oh! Our names will live forever in the Court, for such a prank as this!

[250.0]

Now. The silent girl brought them their blue Kuva,

[258.0]

so they could take on these twisted bodies for only a short time before returning to their own.

[266.0]

They drank and slept and woke in their three. Horrid. Forms.

[274.0]

Off they went, down the stairs, out the door, into the city, into the night of banners and masks and wild hilarity.

[279.0]

Chitter-chatter-snap, scuttle-buttle, whispery-hisspery.

[289.0]

As you can imagine, there were many screams and laughs. Such cleverness. Such wit!

[299.0]

But in a high room of the tower, the silent girl looked at the faces of the three sleeping Orokin.

[305.0]

She went and opened a little ivory door that she was not supposed to know about,

[311.0]

and drew forth a flask that she would have been glassed for even looking at.

[320.0]

A flask of crimson Kuva. The scarlet seal upon Continuity. Permanent.

[327.0]

And she tipped it. Down three. Cruel. Throats.

[334.0]

With a little laugh, she went skating away, never to return.

[340.0]

There were many screams that Naberus night. But when the sun came up,

[349.0]

none screamed so loud as the three who found they were trapped in the hideous bodies they themselves had fashioned.

[357.0]

Forever and ever.

[365.0]

So listen carefully, Tenno, and beware. For you may hear them coming tonight.

[369.0]

Whispery-hisspery on long stalking bones,

[373.0]

Scuttle-buttle with his eyes all empty,

[379.0]

And skinless, dripping-handed, chitter-chatter-snap.

[387.0]

Happy Naberus!

10891 > Grandmother

[7.5]

There was once a Dax cavalrywoman, the lover of an Orokin couple named Corphel and Irilia.

[12.5]

What was her name? We do not know, for they never used it.

[24.2]

They called her by many pet names, though, for an exotic pet she was to them. Little Sweetness. Tender Petal. Wild Rider.

[32.2]

Had a mere Dax been known to be engaging in relations with her betters, she would have been executed on the spot.

[39.3]

But the couple's power and influence were such that the affair would never be publicly addressed.

[45.4]

Still they feared to use her name, for names have power.

[56.5]

Many gifts they gave her. Fine armor. Rubedo rings. And a horse of her own, on the condition that she never, ever named it.

[71.4]

Names were for people, not possessions. So long as it remained a mere nameless thing, she would never love it more than them.

[92.0]

But the rider could not bear to deny her friend the simple kindness of a name. So she whispered into its ear: you are Rakhali, freshness-after-rain.

[99.4]

And just as the couple had feared, she came to love the horse dearly.

[111.7]

This was intolerable to them. The horse had to go. An accidental impalement was arranged.

[125.3]

But fate played a cruel trick, and both rider and horse were impaled. Corphel and Irilia hastened to her side.

[132.5]

Ignoring the dying horse, they fretted over their lover as she coughed blood.

[148.2]

Continuity was out of the question. In desperation, they turned to a certain… expert, and pleaded with him to let her live forever.

[165.3]

He returned the rider to them, transformed to a warrior of living steel. Her sweet and pretty face looked upon them with a smile that would never fade.

[175.5]

For all their talk of 'forever', they wearied of her immediately. Now that the relationship was no longer taboo, they abandoned it.

[183.8]

Parties became awkward when the rider stood vacantly by, useless as an abandoned doll.

[187.9]

She had to go, they agreed.

10892 > Grandmother

[15.0]

So arrangements were made with a master of industry, and the rider - all unknowing - accompanied the couple to a facility.

[36.5]

She lay down obediently when instructed, showed no emotion when the restraints clamped her limbs, and made not a sound when the full force of the dissolution beam blazed through her head and out of the back of her steel skull.

[51.4]

The couple were satisfied. Their sentimental mistake was dead, and furthermore, the smiling doll's face was erased. Now they could erase it from their memory.

[66.1]

I doubt I need to tell you what faceless thing clambered jerkily from the facility's waste disposal heap, in the still of a Naberus night.

[74.4]

How she sought for her Dax Nikana, and found only the overseer's whip-blade.

[85.0]

Confused, vacant, she wandered. Why was she alone? Where was her loyal Rakhali?

[95.4]

She reached deep into despair and memory, and summoned up a ghost-horse to run alongside her on the night winds.

[102.1]

Now, at least, she was no longer alone.

[111.8]

She groped for other memories, came up with hands overflowing with betrayal.

[122.5]

When the morning sun rose on Corphel and Irilia, they were faceless too, and quite still.

[133.2]

After that, she wandered without purpose, and the legend of the hollow rider grew.

[138.0]

And so we come to my part in her story.

[146.3]

You must understand, dear, that it is terribly bad luck to be out on Naberus with no gift to give a reveler.

[159.4]

And yet that was my plight as I stood, my old bones aching, before the dreadful figure on the road, many years ago.

[182.6]

"I have no face," the figure before me seemed to say, in a whispering voice that spoke in my mind. "I have no name. Only a need. And you come before me empty-handed this Naberus night?"

[209.0]

"I do have one thing to give, if it please you," I said to her. "My name. When you ride away, you shall be Dagath. And I shall be only Grandmother."

[223.6]

And that is the story of how I lost my name, and kept my head, though many others have since lost theirs.

[232.6]

For with her name came a new purpose. Dagath, you see, means 'the mirror that accuses'.

[249.0]

They say that none now can look into the gulf where once her face was, without their own sins rising to accuse them, and a swift, sharp sentence following.

[255.9]

A happy Naberus to you all!

It's Naberus! You… do know what that is, right? The ancient Orokin festival of death, darkness and deviance? The happiest time of the entire year? I've dug out all the old family decorations! Take a look. One of them even tells a story...

Naberus is all about raising the ghosts of the past. For the immortal Orokin, that meant everything we thought we left behind. Mortality. Mystery. Fear of the dark.

Now, these ghoulish little knick-knacks have been in the family for generations. I can't just give them away.

When Otak was Otak and had his own shell, I used to put black roses all around his little skull. Tried that with Loid, but he wasn't having it.

The Orokin would laugh at Death on Naberus night. I guess the last laugh was Death's. Here's to her.
